NEW DEADLINES—PLEASE NOTE!
REGISTRATION & HOUSING DEADLINE: Extended to August 11, 2006
ABSTRACT DEADLINE: Extended to September 1, 2006

A planning meeting will be convened October 11–13, 2006 at the Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, California, to discuss science plans for the Advanced Modular Incoherent Scatter Radar (AMISR). The goal of the workshop is to explore the range of science objectives that can be achieved with this new NSF facility at the two high-latitude locations, Poker Flat, Alaska, and Resolute Bay, Nunavut, Canada. Of particular interest is the coordination of future AMISR observations with that of other instrumentation, such as optical measurements, magnetometer data, and GPS TEC data. Talks and posters are solicited from the community.

AMISR is a modular, mobile radar facility that will be used by scientists and students from around the world to conduct studies of the upper atmosphere and to observe space weather events. SRI International, under a grant from the National Science Foundation, is leading a collaborative effort in the development of AMISR, whose novel modular configuration is designed to allow relative ease of relocation for studying upper atmospheric activity around the globe. Remote operation and electronic beam steering will let researchers operate and position the radar beam instantaneously to accurately measure rapidly changing space weather events. The first AMISR face is being constructed in Poker Flat, Alaska and the remaining two faces will be built in Resolute Bay, Nunavut, Canada. Subsequent locations will be determined by a scientific advisory panel.

The AMISR Science Planning Workshop will be held at the Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, California on the Monterey Peninsula (www.visitasilomar.com). Visit the workshop web site at www.amisr.com/meetings/2006asilomar for more details on the program, registration, and travel arrangements. Space at this workshop is limited, so register as soon as possible to ensure your spot.
